For Greeks, Grigoris Lambrakis is the man who breathed new life in the Marathon race in the 20th century and another symbol of the timeless struggle for peace.


Each year since 1982 the Athens Marathon is dedicated to his memory, underlining the fact that the race for Greece is much more than a major sports event, it is a celebration closely interlinked with the country's history.


This time, they depicted Lambrakis' portrait on the awarded medals and the Greek organizers of the Hellenic Sports Federation were making plans for next year's race to preserve the late Greek pacifist Lambrakis and ancient soldier Pheidippides.


Born in a small village of Peloponnese peninsula in southern Greece in 1912 Ron Hainsey Youth Jersey , Lambrakis was a Greek and Balkan champion in the long and triple jump in his youth.
